A very Merry Christmassy Family Portrait session in Cooma

‘I’ll send you a picture of our last Christmas Card’, said Rachel as a cheeky grin played across her face. I couldn’t help but smile. I knew what was coming, well mostly. The Thompson like Christmas…no no, they REALLY like Christmas! And we were here to create this year’s Christmas card-straviganza. So out we went to the Historic Cooma train station for a Christmas themed shoot, were the Thomson's wanted to 'wait for Santa', and then a lovely family session amongst the empty tracks.

Zzzz….zzzzz… my phone hummed in my pocket. I thumbed the home button and the screen came alive. Oh my, yes Rach was right! That was an unfortunate font! The lovely cursive script had transformed one seemingly innocuous ‘L’ to an ‘F’ and now instead of a cheeky, cheerful Christmas massage, the shirts were basically straight-out using the ‘f-bomb’… Honestly, I nearly wet myself laughing!

So armed with a Santa suit and reindeer antlers we giggled our way through the two sessions. Thea, Rachel and Jordan’s adorable little daughter, found the abandoned train tracks fascinating and I lost count of the number of times she ran backwards and forwards across the hex-plate crossing, in the end laying across it enjoying the cool, patterned steel plate against her cheek. We found a fun sign that made Cooma seem a little crazier than it is (see if you can pick it below!) and Thea gathered ‘pretty’ rocks, though as her chocolate high wore off (the session unfortunately landed smack bang on her nap time) we turned in for the day.

But what a fun time! How this little session came to be was most serendipitous meeting of a photographer and a client! One chance encounter in a beautiful garden became what I’m sure is the start of a fabulous friendship!

The Thompsons are the new kids in town but have really slipped in to the flow of this seamlessly! Shifting her family halfway across the country Rachel decided to follow in the footsteps of her Grandfather, who worked on the Snowy Mountains Scheme back in the day. Now, Rachel, Jordan and Thea have become firm members of our little community as she joins the team working on Snowy 2.0 and continues her Grandfathers legacy.

And we how lucky we are for it! I know I’m grateful for this wonderfully vibrant family and can’t wait for the exciting adventures to come!!!

So, I know this is coming to you a little later than Christmas Day, but I just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and all the very best for the New Year. I hope that 2019 is your best year yet and you are able to step closer and closer to you goals and dreams.

All the love in the world to the Thompson family, to all the wonderful people I’ve had the privilege of photographing this year and of course to each and ever one of you out there!

Peace

Katie
